Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. Hello,

I see you have created the category for this project. I have noted most pictures do not have categories, or have generic categories which are not precise enough. The consequence is that pictures are harder to find in Commons and hence to use.

Would it be possible to provide a list of each monument which has been photographed? If you could also link the monument's name with the picture title (as they are mostly numbered using the same name), it would help a lot to categorize them properly.

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 27 September 2025, 23:59:59 UTC.

Bonjour,

Je note que tu télécharges des photos mais sans catégorie. Dans un projet multilingue comme Commons, une photo sans catégorie n'a à peu près aucune chance d'être trouvée et utilisée. Bonjour,

Je vois que tu ajoutes bien les catégories, merci pour cela. Gardes en tête qu'il faut toujours choisir la ou les catégories les plus précises. Par exemple, si tu inclus déjà Category:Great Mosque of Khniss, il n'est pas nécessaire d'ajouter une catégorie plus générale comme Category:Tunisia. Au contraire, pour File:Liberty Square, Douz City 01.jpg, il ne faudrait pas choisir Category:Tunisia mais une sous-catégorie plus précise. En consultant Category:Douz, tu trouveras Category:Statues in Douz puis Category:Camel rider, Douz qui est la statue photographiée.
